Nice article, and congrats on getting the yurt!

That Dyson-Hudson quote on nomads was a favorite of mine, too, when I read his book. A VERY IMPORTANT message, thanks for putting it out there. Many nomads carry skills and cultural practices from which the rest of us can learn, another reason for viewing them as treasures rather than as expendable.

Thanks also for mentioning my book, much appreciated.

Right on Scotty, beam me up for some of that fine NorCal whitewater! I miss the NorFo, MoFo and SoFo so much since I've been here pounding rocks in here Folsom. If my view were a little better I could even keep an eye on the lake for ya! Send me a file so I can start working my way outta here.

Interesting perspective indeed. I love your conclusion. I love to read your writing in general. I definately see a part of myself in this desire for adventure or change and something out of the ordinary or maybe it runs deeper into a desire for connection and finding common ground in a community and with this planet. Lest fate should find me a temptress I must say that I never wish any ill on anyone due to natural disasters as I know you don't and I do find global warming disconcerting but I too am amoung those that cries out Horray when it rains! And horray when it's cold! And horray when it's hot! And yes, even horray when the power goes out and we have to remember what it's like to live without power for awhile.

This was a great trip and I wouldn't have done it with anyone else. Scotty absolutely stomped the creek. The funniest thing about this day is that Aaron Root soloed 4 boats through Lumsden, one of which flipped at the top, and I'm the one who pulls a muscle in my back cheering him on.

Showing survival skills away from city atmosphere is a great learning experience. Using “Solar Beads” is a great way to keep kids informed of the power of the sun by changing colors when exposed to the sun’s rays. It lets them know when they are getting too much sun exposure. Great article thanks!
